Program Director: Dr. Amanda Sullivan

Bachelor of Science Degree in Physical Education/Health

The faculty of the Department of EXSS are dedicated to the development of quality teachers who successfully implement effective and innovative physical education and health programs in elementary, middle (junior high)and high schools. Physical education has been part of the teacher preparation program at the University of Evansville for over 50 years. Our program is fully accredited by the Indiana Department of Education and the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education. Furthermore, students who earn an Indian teaching license enjoy reciprocity with dozens of other states.

Physical education is a science-based program. The comprehensive curriculum gives the student a pedagogical background framed by content knowledge in movement analysis, motor behavior, historical and social aspects of sport, administration, team sports, individual sports, dual sports, lifetime fitness, rhythms, gymnastics and aquatics. The students integrate experiences in collaboration, cooperation and leadership to enhance professional growth through reflection and performance assessment.
