Bachelor of Science Degree with a Major in Exercise Science and Physical Therapist Assistant

The physical therapist assistant (PTA) is a skilled technical health care worker who, under the supervision of a physical therapist, carries our patient treatment programs. The PTA program is designed for individuals who want to be involved in providing direct patient care in the physical therapy program. This unique collaborative program between the Departments of EXSS and Physical Therapy offers students the opportunity to combine the B.S. in Exercise Science with the PTA certification, allowing students to work in a wide variety of health care settings.

In addition to the curriculum leading to the B.S. in Exercise Science (found in the Exercise Science page), students will be required to successfully complete the following: Required Courses: PT 101 (Basic Modalities & Techniques), PT 103 (Fundamentals of Client Care, PT 102(Basic Modalities & Techniques II), PT 106(Functional Anatomy Lab), PT 110(Field Experience), PSYC 121(Introduction to Psychology), PT 111(Clinical), PT 200(Pathophysiology), PT 210(Basic Modalities & Techniques III), PT 251 (Neurologic Rehabilitation), SOC 105(Introduction to Sociology), PT 249(Clinical II), PT 250(Clinical III), PT 252(Professional Issues for the PTA)
